who am i?
My name is Kirsty Nicoll, I am a Scottish visual artist. My undergraduate was in Art History at the University of Glasgow (2013-17). Following this, I attended Leith School of Art for a year to study painting (2020-21). Since then, my work has been shaped by a diverse range of art projects around the world.
A large portion of this time was as Artist in Residence at a non-profit art museum in California, where I have painted over 40 murals. Embracing the museums zero-waste ethos, I created sculptures from discarded items, up-cycled neglected furniture, and repurposed plastic for insulation when building new structures. My time here has had a profound impact on my practice, I now exclusively make work on found materials.
I have a background in textiles, growing up surrounded by fabric at my family’s linen mill in Fife. This early exposure to design, rich with patterns, textures, and colours, has deeply influenced my artistic style.
